It wasn’t shocking to learn that Hideo Kojima would use Death Stranding as the basis for his first daring foray into cinema. The creator of computer games has made it abundantly obvious that his cross-country baby-in-a-jar journey with Norman Reedus is, like BB to Sam, his kid.

Given how much people enjoy the game, Kojima is undoubtedly not the only one who has a great deal of affection for the strange, unsettling, and depressing world he has created.

The announcement that the game would be turned into a movie was exciting for Kojima’s legions of super-fans. But don’t anticipate it to be a major box office success.

THE ARTHOUSE APPROACH IS BEING USED IN DEATH STRANDING

As the producer of the upcoming Death Stranding movie, Kojima has acknowledged that there was never any intention to make the movie feel like a big blockbuster. Instead, it will adopt a more avant-garde style of filmmaking.

Kojima said there was never any chance that the movie would be much of a hit while discussing his hopes for the film in an interview with IGN.

Beginning last year, “I was on video chats with a number of folks in Hollywood every week, and not just for Death Stranding,” the man claims. The author said, “I received many offers, but I never intended to produce a big-budget film. Alex Lebovici from Hammerstone Studios agreed with me in that regard.

There were numerous proposals to produce a big-budget film featuring recognizable actors and exciting explosions, but what use would they serve in Death Stranding?

As he continued, it was a classic Kojima response: “Making money isn’t something I’m focused on at all, either. The only person who offered to do a movie like that was Alex Lebovici, which leads me to believe he is a fairly odd character. I’m going for a more arthouse approach.

MAY NOT BE IN THE DEATH STRANDING MOVIE IS SAM PORTER BRIDGES

The same interview also discloses that the plot’s specifics are still being negotiated and that Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, might not even be present.

Regarding Sam’s presence, Kojima noted, “We haven’t exactly finalized that yet. Many movies target gamers due to the failure of earlier game adaptations to the big screen, right? They resemble games in appearance as a result. That is not how I envision the Death Stranding movie. Instead, I’m choosing to change and develop the Death Stranding universe in a way that works well for movies.

Therefore, the new Death Stranding movie won’t be an exact copy of the game; in my opinion, this will result in a far more intriguing movie. There are many story options in the Death Stranding universe, and Kojima is more than eager to take advantage of them.
