Doctor Strange has returned to the pages of Marvel Comics, despite being murdered. Death chose him to be the Harvestman, a sort of Death avatar who does Death’s work on Earth. He has been charged with locating the Blasphemy Cartel, a gang resurrecting super-powered individuals as revenants to do their bidding. Meanwhile, Clea Strange, the new Sorcerer Supreme, is on their tail. She has been trying to resuscitate her deceased husband, only to discover that he is the Harvestman she has been fighting all along.
When Doctor Strange and the newest Sorcerer, Supreme Clea, kiss, they unleash a brand-new god form that paraphrases Watchmen’s most powerful hero, Dr. Manhattan, to demonstrate exactly how powerful it is.
Other Powerful Doctor Quotes from Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange and Clea team up to attack the Blasphemy Cartel’s lair in Strange #10 by Jed MacKay and Marcelo Ferreira. As soon as they arrive, their leader summons Revenant Prime, an undead counterpart of the Sentry. In their final moments, Clea and Doctor Strange cannot beat him and kiss. However, because they both embody conflicting forces of life and Death, they merged to form a powerful new entity that killed the Sentry. When the leader of the Blasphemy Cartel declares that their war isn’t finished, the new united creature declares that “nothing is ever over.”
This fusion of Clea and Doctor Strange is both terrifying and powerful. It essentially resembles a god-like figure with seemingly unlimited power. That alone is enough to elicit comparisons to Watchmen’s Dr. Manhattan, even though the two are nothing comparable. Also, the entity’s statement about nothing being over is disturbingly similar to Dr. Manhattan’s statement to Ozymandias that “nothing ever ends.”
This phrase from Dr. Manhattan is intended to convey Dr. Manhattan’s immense knowledge and omniscience. He knows things and possesses otherworldly wisdom that transcends human politics and drama. The fact that this new thing evokes the same feelings is telling. It indicates to the reader that this being possesses the same power and understanding as Dr. Manhattan. Beyond the simple stories they are in and the villains they face, the two share an understanding. It’s unknown whether Clea and Doctor Strange will ever work together again, but if they do, fans will be hard-pressed not to think of Watchmen’s Dr. Manhattan.
