The Phaethon Mount is arguably one of the update’s highlights, among the multitude of intriguing features that Patch 6.3: Gods Revel, Lands Tremble has delivered to Final Fantasy XIV.
This majestic yet flaming steed-like beast has a jagged ember horn emerging from its crown and flame hair that forms its magnificent mane, bushy tail, and singeing frills throughout its body. The Phaethon, like a zebra, has dark crimson stripes on its pelt, adding to the Mount’s already unique appearance. Needless to say, this Mount is a need for ride collectors or those who enjoy flame-themed cosmetics.
Warriors of Light must give three Burning Horns to the vendor Nesvaaz, an Au Ra Merchant who manages the Totem and Sundry Exchange in Radz-at-West Han’s Balshahn Bazaar, to obtain the Phaethon Mount in Final Fantasy XIV. The summoning item for the Mount is the Phaethon Horn, which can be found in the Out-of-this-World Oddities of Nesvaaz’s shops.
How to Unlock the Phaethon Mount in Final Fantasy XIV
Burning Horns is a rare new item obtained by exploring treasure chests using Timeworn Ophiotaruoskin Treasure Maps or by venturing into the Shifting Gymnasion Agonon Dungeon via the same maps.
Unfortunately, these horns are not shared drops, so if players find them in the Dungeon’s last box, they must roll Need or Greed to obtain them.
As a result, players may have to grind the maps and Dungeon instance numerous times before obtaining the three Burning Horns required to purchase the Phaethon Mount from Nesvaaz in Final Fantasy XIV.
In terms of obtaining the Timeworn Ophiotaruoskin Treasure Maps, Disciple of the Land can do so by farming uncommon nodes in the Elpis region.
Wealthy Warriors of Light, like FFXIV content creator Meoni, can now purchase the Timeworn Ophiotaruoskin Treasure Maps, Burning Horns, or even the Phaethon Mount directly from the Market Board.
Naturally, the cost of spending Gil on these products can range from hundreds of thousands to millions of Gil. Of course, pricing will vary depending on the server, but no adventurer should expect such rarities to be cheap.
Buying and farming the Timeworn Ophiotaruoskin Treasure Maps may be the most time- and Gil-worthy investment for attaining Phaethon in FFXIV if players have friends to play with.
