Hot 93.3 switches formats by updating its musical selection for the modern era

Hot 93.3

Just when we thought Pitbull’s old smash “Give Me Everything Tonight” couldn’t get any more overplayed on present radio, Hot 93.3 FM, a 90s pop music station, said its internal clock is shifting forward by a decade.

According to the station’s website, Cumulus Media’s top hits station, which reaches Dallas and Fort Worth, has announced that it will broaden its music format from exclusively the best hits of the 1990s to include diagram toppers from the 2000s. The station’s name has also been changed to The New Hot 93.3 FM.

The format shift at Hot 93.3 FM is merely the most recent of multiple radio station makeovers. The Eagle, a long-running rock station, changed its name to The Freak, a new free-talk format station, on 97.1 FM. The Freak also brought back Ben Rogers and Jeff “Skin” Wade’s Ben and Skin Show, which had previously aired on The Eagle. Pugs Moran, of Pugs and Kelly fame, will host a weekend night talk show, Mansplaining, on the defunct Live 105.3 FM station.

A change from an all-jazz format to independent music was announced by the student-run KNTU 88.1 FM at the University of North Texas in Denton a few months ago, sparking a surge of conflicting reactions from listeners.

Yes, the 1990s gave rise to some of the finest songs in contemporary pop music. The 2011 smash “I’m Sexy And I Know It” was defeated by even cheeseball centerpieces like “I’m Too Sexy.” Even if the recollections of musicians like Amy Winehouse and The White Stripes can get lost in the endurance of LMFAO and Creed, the early 2000s had some excellent music.

There’s always 91.7 KXT, Deep Ellum Radio, and 89.3 KNON if you want a carefully selected blend of regional music, standards, and classics.

With its new station, Hot 93.3 now more closely resembles the formats of other iHeartMedia stations including 106.1 KISS FM and Now 102.9 FM. Additionally, Cumulus owns and runs the country stations on 99.5 FM. The legendary sports radio programme The Ticket is broadcast on 1310 AM, along with The Wolf and New Country 96.3, WBAP 820 AM, and KLIF 570 AM.

Cumulus has not yet made any managerial or on-air host changes at Hot 93.3 FM. Since moving to Dallas from Seattle’s Movin’ 92.5 FM last year, social media celebrity turned radio personality Mason has maintained her morning time slot from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sid Kelly is in charge of the afternoon shift from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

All is well. Please stop playing that torture music by Pitbull before we purposefully merge into traffic.
