Nishita worked for the San Jose Police Station from 2001 to 2012, and the police department in nearby Colma, California, reported he joined their unit in 2012. According to a statement from the Colma Police Agency, he served as a detective and field training officer before being promoted to sergeant in 2015 and retiring from the department in 2018.
The guard was brought to the hospital following the incident, which occurred about noon on Wednesday, according to Oakland Police.
The incident came after a “particularly violent week,” according to the statement, which added that personnel will be expanded to deal with violent crime in the city.
