The question we asked them was – As a business leader, what does a typical day at your company look like for you? What do you like most about it? And conversely what are the biggest challenges?

Title: HR Director

1. As a business leader, what does a typical day at your company look like for you?
As the HR Director of FDG, I am responsible for designing and implementing programs that give our employees the tools they need to succeed. A typical day at my company starts with checking in on my direct reports and making sure they’re in the office, before beginning my own daily tasks.
When you work in HR, your job is never done! In addition to managing a team of four other HR professionals, I oversee all new hire orientation programs and contribute to our annual employee engagement survey results.
Coordinating the creation of new benefit plans and salary policies is also a big part of my workflow. Whenever possible, I collaborate with our Operations team to develop performance-based rewards programs for individual teams so that we can ensure people are recognized for their hard work on a consistent basis.
2. What do you like most about it? And conversely, what are the biggest challenges?
I like to think that I am the “glue” of the FDG team. As HR Director, I make sure that all employees know and feel like they are part of our company. I like working with people because that means there will always be something new to learn.
Conversely, the biggest challenge of my work is to build a culture around the company. Making sure that every employee is happy, especially when times are tough, and helping them understand how their work fits in with the overall vision of the company. Although it’s challenging, I love that aspect of my role.

In my opinion, when beginning your response, you should first identify what aspects of the question presented such a significant obstacle for you. Be sure that the answer you provide demonstrates how you went about solving the problem. Give them as much background information as you can so that they can get an accurate picture of how you deal with situations like these. It is also essential that you explain to the interviewer what you have gained from the experience and how you intend to apply it to the position that you are applying for at their company.

Every single day is about creation and evaluation, and generating the sort of content and honest reviews that my audience can enjoy, believe in and trust. It’s about writing and showing others how to turn their words in dollars and change their hobbies into full-time professions that they’re passionate about, and making targeted, audience-first YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram programming that my followers want to see. It’s a twenty-four-hour-a-day schedule that barely leaves time for anything else, but I’m a lucky guy because I love what I do for a living and I get to do it each and every day.

The need for broader understanding
In the not too distant past, many firm leaders operated in silos: They were the experts in their area, but rarely participated in the work of other departments. Today, however, executives must adopt a more expansive organizational perspective. For instance, the responsibilities of many CFOs have expanded to include human resources, information technology, and operations. Successful leaders ensure that they participate in interdepartmental groups and projects. Developing close ties with employees outside of your department can be helpful for learning about other parts of the organization. Executives can also gain a better understanding of common organizational structures and procedures by holding high-level management positions in professional organizations.

The demand for competent skills
Because experts in high demand have more opportunities now than ever before, it is more difficult to recruit and retain top performers. In addition, managers must frequently supervise personnel in multiple locations, which makes it more difficult to encourage people. Successful leaders utilize their strong communication skills at this stage, clearly describing to each employee his or her career path and position in the company’s mission and then assisting people as they develop their leadership abilities and prepare for increasing responsibilities. In addition to seeking criticism on their communication style from mentors, co-managers, and even employees, astute leaders implement the finest suggestions.

Information excess
Managers today have access to enormous databases with information that can significantly improve their decision-making, but the amount of information they are exposed to every day can be overwhelming. Strong leaders understand how to extract the most useful information and convert it into strategic counsel, as well as how to recruit highly skilled business analysts who can assist them in doing so.

Change and change again.
In the not-too-distant past, businesses recognized at least the fundamentals of their competitors’ business models, as the majority of businesses worked in a similar fashion. Today, however, businesses are constantly developing new business models. Furthermore, technology appears to evolve every minute. Therefore, it is essential for managers to be abreast of market trends and to be flexible and open to change. Executives should take external courses and engage in in-house professional development programs in order to stay abreast of the latest technological trends. Simply said, it is evident that the corporate environment of today is always changing, and that leaders face new pressures daily. Managers must devote time and energy to enhancing and refining their leadership skills in order to help their organizations remain competitive.

Accountability.
My responsibility lies with the owners. Owners can be legal owners like shareholders, but the term can also take on a broader meaning to include moral ownership, which refers to anyone who cares about the company’s vision and goals. Legal owners are the most common type of owners. Shareholders are another type of owner. The owners of a firm or a board of directors that represents the owners can hold the chief executive officer of a corporation accountable for the performance and effect of the organization.

In my experience, the unstoppable onslaught of new information presents business leaders with the greatest challenges they must overcome. The amount of information that is offered to managers daily can be rather daunting, despite the fact that they now have access to enormous databases that are packed with data that can significantly improve their ability to make decisions. The most effective leaders understand how to extract the most useful information and turn it into strategic counsel, as well as how to recruit highly skilled business analysts who are able to assist them in accomplishing these tasks.

As a business leader in the technology industry, every day can look a little bit different due to the various projects my company is working on in a given time period.
I like to begin every day with a small meeting with our whole team. Beginning the day with a little motivation and excitement gets the team in a productive mindset. After we discuss our goals for today and the progress made on different projects, we disperse and begin working on our projects for the day.
I’ve also incorporated reading business books into our daily routine. For example, we pick a business book that resonates with our company or a business book that can help us all become more productive team members. Our latest book has been Deep Work by Cal Newport. This book is engaging and highlights the value of crafting a better workspace, which is something we all strive to do.
I love that we’ve incorporated this into our work as I believe reading fuels business success. I also love that we’ve created a bond through our team that strengthens us as a business.
One daily challenge I think we all face is staying motivated during intense projects. Some projects are dragged out or need to be redone, and it’s challenging to maintain motivation when you’re checking over numbers and info all day. This is why we have team meetings and individual break times to clear our heads and look at our work with fresh eyes.
Before we all go home for the day, we reconvene and discuss the progress that was made today. This includes sales and the number of new customers that have subscribed to our service. We all take a second to appreciate each other as a team, and then we go home.

This makes the company more appealing to conduct business with from the point of view of both consumers and suppliers, and it also makes the company more appealing as a place of employment to a greater variety of individuals. Every day, I have at least three hours’ worth of paperwork to complete, and I frequently speak on the phone with our customers and suppliers. In-demand professionals now have more options, making it more difficult to attract and keep the best employees. To make matters more difficult, managers frequently have to coordinate the efforts of teams spread across multiple locations. It’s here that successful leaders use their strong communication skills to clearly explain to each employee his or her career path and role in the company’s mission, and then to help people as they grow their leadership skills and prepare for increasing responsibilities. Next, I focus on marketing my business and trying to obtain new customers. I then spend the rest of the day working on my own tasks and doing some paperwork.
There’s always something to do, someone to call, or a meeting to attend. It’s harder to focus on just one thing. I believe, that every morning, the average business leader spends 30 minutes strategizing. This includes day, week, month, and year goals, time management, and prioritization. Hence there is a feeling of productive chaos all morning and noon. We have also assigned teams so a tinge of collectivity can be felt among the employees.
As a business owner, I should not be excited by the chaos. But it brings a feeling of comfort in my mind seeing employees share the same hunger and determination as their boss. Such energy can get tiring, but it’s essential for success.

I finally sit down at my desk and start off with video meetings with any clients or vendors. This takes an hour or so, and then I head on to any work that needs my attention. I usually take meetings with other CEOs and leaders during lunch.
For the second half of my day, I make rounds in the office. It’s important to involve myself in the daily workings of my business. I like to know if everything is going smoothly. My typical day is swamped. I try to hold meetings in the morning when I am fresh. So, I usually am either out meeting prospects or hosting in-house discussions with stakeholders all morning. I try to make it back to the office before lunch.
During lunch, I just kind of roam around the office space. I talk to employees and observe the overall environment. Despite my cramped schedule, I pride myself on being accessible to my team.
By late afternoon you’ll find me hunkered down behind my desk. I try to take an hour or so to sift through reports or pending issues. It helps me gauge our daily progress and allows me to set goals.
And my day ends with a regular meeting with my middle managers. I never leave the office without it. Meeting the people who manage my company helps me stay in touch with day-to-day business affairs. I try not to lose sight of minor aspects in pursuit of grander ones.
In my opinion, the biggest challenge is keeping up with the pace. There are limited hours in the day, but my work seems unlimited. And the exhaustion sometimes takes a toll on my well-being.
The best part of my day would be the time I spend holding candid conversations with my team. These talks help me stay human.

Travel
In my opinion, even while it is possible to conduct a substantial percentage of one’s business from a remote location in the modern era, this does not mean that travel is no longer necessary. The length of time spent traveling is the primary consideration. The average commute time for a C-suite executive is approximately one hour. On the other hand, this may have a significant impact on the concerned individual. Others are subject to considerably more stringent travel restrictions than you are. Because business travel is a vital element of the CEO’s responsibilities, the average CEO spends between one and ten full workdays every month on such trips. This means that superior managers must spend more time traveling and less time in meetings than their subordinate counterparts.

A typical day starts with me checking emails from clients and insurance companies for pending cases on my clients. After this, I then check the statistics on my company’s website and how it is performing. After this, I begin dialing the new leads that came in the night before and start follow-ups. I do this all day until mid-afternoon then take a lunch break and check in with my agents and see how they are doing. After a few meetings and I finish my lunch I go back to dialing leads. At the end of the day is usually when I and my agents have wrapped up dialing, we then lock up the office and all drive home. What I enjoy most about it is helping my agents if they are having a bad day. I will talk and encourage them to get back on their phones and do the best they can. The biggest challenge is answering client emails. We get over 30 emails or more in the morning and I have to try and respond to all of them before the afternoon. As a solopreneur and consultant my typical day starts with a brief review of emails followed by any projects(s)/contract(s) prep or completion. That may look like designing a draft website, creating an ad campaign, devising a marketing strategy, writing copy/content, creating a tagline, designing NFTs, and more. From there it’s follow-ups, research, and pure grind. And when I don’t have clients, I read, research, create and grind (still).
What I love most about what I do is the ability to help clients from big brands, C-Suite Executives, small businesses, and aspiring entrepreneurs across various sectors. No day is ever the same which is great for keeping things exciting and for challenging me to do better work, every day.
One of my biggest challenges by far are silent skeptics (or even headhunters who call) who may love my work but can’t seem to envision it being mostly a one woman show – or those who may not understand how to properly vet me for roles or projects as a solopreneur. While there’s several ways to do this with traditionally structured companies or W2 employees, there’s often a disconnect when it comes to understanding how to do this with solopreneurs/sole proprietors. I appreciate when asked for more details or even asked to prove my work – the problem is it seems rare to be asked which costs both time and opportunity for both parties.
For a solopreneur/sole proprietor those are definitely two assets we simply can’t afford to lose.

Title: Owner
Company: River City Virtual Assistants
Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/katie-santoro-6a67281a0/
A typical day at my company looks like most typical days, with some A-typical aspects. One of the things that I think makes me successful is that I have always treated this as a regular job. The only difference is that I don’t have to dress in business attire and my commute is to the home office, right off of my kitchen. Very short.I like to start my mornings planning my day while drinking coffee. Then I “head into the office”. I still work with a few clients because I truly love what I do, and I believe that you shouldnt manage people if you don’t know what they do; I keep my own clients so I can continue to learn in the virtual assistant role, and can continue to mentor my team. I split my day between client work, business development, and team support. Business development can mean taking consultation calls, working on marketing strategy or attending networking events. Team support can be anything from teaching someone how to do a new task, or coaching a team member through conflicts with clients. I often have to switch gears from being a virtual assistant, to being the boss of the agency. As many small business owners, I wear a lot of hats.
The thing I like most about my days is that while they are fairly structured, they are always different and I am always in control. There is constant problem solving, which I really enjoy but when I am tired of problem solving, I am the boss and can close the office early. I can take a walk if I need to and I am able to fit exercise into my day whenever I need. I am able to take care of myself mentally and physically because I am in control of my day. While owning a business can feel very overwhelming, I have intentionally structured my days so that my mental health comes first and I can show up as my best self for my team and clients.
The biggest challenge for me is being an introvert. I have to interact with other people in all of my roles. I take multiple zoom calls a day, I take phone calls from team members, and being at home during the day with my family, I have in-person interactions. Some days it feels like there is so much noise and I often need to end my day with personal quiet time so that I can recharge.

According to my point of view, the demand for business executives to have a more comprehensive understanding is one of the most difficult problems they must face. Being involved in cross-departmental projects and committees is an important component of being a great leader since it allows you to broaden your knowledge of the company as a whole. Challenges of Communication and Motivation
It doesn’t follow that the sky won’t collapse in around you just because you’ve ascended to the top of your organisation and are now a leader. You have been chosen to act as a leader in that situation. If you accept it, it is actually your quest. Leaders must always overcome obstacles, but with the right strategy and skills, you may carve a successful road and triumph. Some of the numerous challenges that every leader must overcome are listed below. It’s possible that as a leader, you’ve lost some of your excitement for the undertaking or group. The majority of us experience it, but all you need to do now is gather your strengths and go back on track. Don’t waste time worrying about what isn’t working if you can’t repair it. Strategy
A typical morning strategy session for a corporate executive lasts slightly under 30 minutes. Setting and reviewing daily, weekly, monthly, and annual goals, as well as managing one’s time and establishing priorities, are all part of this process. At the end of the day, someone else will take care of this work. Every night before I go to bed, I take a few minutes to think about what the company’s most pressing issues are for the following day. Using my ‘black book,’ which I keep with me at all times, I categorise them into different sections, such as fundraising or operations. I prefer to start with the most difficult or intricate tasks. I try to limit the number of items on my “important list” to five at a time and return to it periodically during the day in order to prevent being distracted by things like email. In order to effectively manage my time and focus on the most important projects, I must prioritise. I may re-prioritize my list as many as two to three times during the course of the day.

Communication
Business leaders frequently rank effective communication as the most ‘soft skill’. Your ability to communicate positively impacts your interactions with everyone from employees to customers. More than three hours a day are spent on email, text and phone calls and less than three and a half hours a day are spent in conference calls and meetings for the average leader. People and teams take up more than half their time, while they spend less than two hours on their own initiatives and duties. What’s the takeaway here? Workdays run more smoothly when you are able to communicate effectively with your coworkers. It’s not just about being able to articulate your views and ideas; it’s about being able to communicate with others. It also includes listening to theirs. When leading major projects, take the effort to get to know your stakeholders’ current viewpoints. Every person will have a distinct start point, based on their experience and role. Discussing individual road plans, which lead to the same destination, will extend your awareness of the difficulties and generate more engaged and eager members.

There is no “average” day in this work, which is what I find most fascinating. I would spend one day arranging meetings, and the next I would be busy managing my staff. I might be busy the following day giving presentations to superiors or coaching the trainees on how to speak well in front of an audience. I make an effort to perform at the required degree of efficiency when the job is uncertain.
The biggest challenge is that, I have to be patient being a business leader to a wider subordinates. It is not easy to teach and lead a team, so patience is a virtue. At the end of the day, my team will grow and succeed in terms of achieving our objectives.

I normally start my Monday morning by reviewing the list from the entire past week. I may establish my priorities in this way. I check the progress of the tasks I’m working on and, if there is any, I attempt to complete any tasks. I make an effort to ensure that all of the work that is given to me is successfully carried out.
However, I find it challenging if my schedule with my secretary is not that organized. I often forget some agenda items, but with the help of my assistant, I can easily get back and work on it.

Operating
Leadership issues have remained mostly unchanged. Operating your business under the weight of onerous government restrictions is, in my opinion, one of the biggest difficulties of today—and it’s just getting worse. Finding managers and workers who would act ethically, on the other hand, presents the biggest problem for leaders, in my opinion. The “gorilla in the room” is business ethics, and too many managers are willing to compromise morality in order to maximise profits. A good leader knows his industry and runs it with maximum effectiveness and a decent profit within what he perceives to be the industry standard for his product. And he brings down the Hammer of Thor at the slightest indication of unethical activity among his management team. It would be lovely if this were always the case, but all too frequently, greed and the desire for financial gain undermine moral standards.

My typical day starts with setting my daily goals. I usually pick two or three things I want to accomplish before the day closes, that way, even if something unexpected temporarily derails me, I can get right back on task easily. My daily goals are really variable– sometimes it’s all about networking to secure investors, other days it’s all logistics to ensure every department is on schedule.
But there’s one thing I do every day, and that’s to spend the first hour of work on communication. I check all messages and reach out to people on my team to touch base and make sure nobody feels like they’re disconnected or unappreciated.

As a business leader, two of my most important daily responsibilities are checking in on my employees and checking in on my customers. First, I strive to lead laterally every day so that I can get a better understanding of how my teams are working and how my employees are faring. Second, I check in with my customer-facing team members for updates on our most recent customer experiences and for insight into how we can continue to offer the best customer service. The people aspects of our business are of the utmost priority and are the most important of my daily job functions.

As a business leader, even with a structured plan, it’s difficult to stick to a routine. Therefore, a typical day in the company is always hectic, with many responsibilities ranging from morning meetings to planning, executing, and chasing the business goals. The most exciting thing about the day at work is that it always gives me a reason to flourish among competitors. And the most challenging thing is to provide value to our customers. By value, I mean real cost benefits, not just the benefits.
In the first quarter of the day, I meet up with my managers/ supervisors to discuss their goals for the day and help them devise strategies/action plans to complete the tasks. During this time, we brainstorm about sales and marketing and general organizational matters. We set short-term revenue goals and define KPIs. Later, I check the financials of the company and discuss everything with the accountant to be on the same page. At the end of the first quarter of the day, I take a break for 15 minutes and refresh myself usually with coffee. Before lunchtime, I check and reply to business emails and delegate responsibilities to my teams. And after the lunch break, I re-evaluate and plan the rest of the day and go out for any business meetings with suppliers, investors, and other stakeholders for future planning.

As a CEO, my days are usually pretty hectic. I start the day by checking my email and seeing if there are any urgent issues that need to be dealt with. Then I’ll have a quick meeting with my team to go over our planned tasks for the day. After that, I’ll start working on some of the more strategic aspects of my job, like planning new marketing campaigns or coming up with ways to improve our website. I usually take a break for lunch around midday, and then it’s back to work until late in the afternoon. In the evenings I usually try to wrap up any loose ends so I can relax for the rest of the night.
The biggest challenge of my days is finding a balance between work and free time. As much as I love my job, it can be all-consuming if I’m not careful. That’s why it’s important for me to make time for things outside of work, whether it’s spending time with family and friends or working on a hobby. It’s all about finding that balance.
The opportunity to experience different things is what I enjoy most about my days. The days are never the same, which adds to their unpredictability. I’m constantly meeting new people and learning new things, and I get to do what I love for a living. That’s pretty priceless.

Decisions.
I am the one who makes decisions and accepts responsibility for those decisions as well as the results of those decisions. This is the biggest part of my job. A company’s vision is essentially a decision regarding its future and the direction in which it will go. The formulation of a company’s strategy entails making a choice regarding the manner in which it will pursue its future. When a CEO begins to engage in activities such as micromanagement or execution, they are no longer performing the duties of a CEO.
