In a new post, Jeffrey Dean Morgan teases his involvement with Invincible, implying that the actor would be involved in the series.
Invincible by Prime Video is based on the award-winning comic book of the same name, which premiered in 2003 and was written by Robert Kirkman.
Kirkman also created The Walking Dead, which became a global success upon the release of the AMC program, which stars Morgan as the foul-mouthed villain/anti-hero Negan. Morgan and Kirkman appear to be reuniting for the superhero series Invincible.
Morgan shared an Instagram photo of himself with Invincible compendiums 2 and 3, along with a message implying that the actor was researching the story and a “thanks to Robert Kirkman.”
The cast of Invincible season 1 included numerous performers from The Walking Dead. Thus Morgan’s prospective inclusion in season 2 would be consistent with Kirkman’s approach to the program.
Even Invincible’s main character, Mark Grayson, is voiced by Glenn actor Steven Yeun from The Walking Dead. Morgan’s post, however, contains a confusing message. He doesn’t say anything about his casting in the cartoon show, instead saying, “Doing a little reading.”
Who Could Jeffrey Dean Morgan Play in Invincible?
Angstrom Levy and Conquest have already been revealed as prominent antagonists in Invincible season 2. If Morgan is cast, he could play the latter, and Conquest’s fight with Mark might be better than Omni- Man’s.
Given the breakthrough last struggle between father and son in the Invincible season 1 finale, that is a high bar to clear, but where Omni-Man showed restraint in the end by letting Mark live and flying off into space alone, Conquest would have battered the youngster.
Conquest is a rampaging Viltrumite from the comics with an insatiable thirst for blood and no respect for life. A dramatic villain like that may be totally in Morgan’s wheelhouse.
Because Morgan’s on-screen abilities lend themselves well to portraying villains, anti-heroes, and other morally ambiguous characters, the actor is more than likely to play one of the Invincible comics’ most famous antagonists.
Thragg is one of the antagonists yet to be introduced to the show.
Because Thragg is one of the greatest threats in the Invincible comic book universe, if not the biggest, his likely appearance in Invincible season 2 might suddenly shift the show’s axis. In the comics, the figure is Invincible’s enemy and the most formidable villain Mark has ever faced. Morgan’s Negan, who plays a similar role to Rick Grimes’ group on The Walking Dead, could easily bring the same dynamic to Thragg.
Another less plausible possibility is that Morgan was teasing his casting for the Invincible live-action film rather than the animated series. Morgan has been fantastic in the part of Omni-Man since reports of an Invincible live-action film in the works became public.
Invincible season 2 might redeem Omni-Man so Mark can seek help fighting the new adversaries. This shift would also place the character on the route that Morgan’s Negan took in The Walking Dead’s final few seasons, making him an ideal fit to play Omni-Man in the Invincible film.
