Critics and viewers alike have praised the writing & acting of House of the Dragon. In comparison to the rather leisurely first episode of Game of Thrones, the second season of House of the Dragon has already seen a number of major events, including the rapid destabilization of the Targaryen family after King Viserys (Paddy Considine) proclaim his child heir to the Iron Throne.
Rhaenyra & Alicent, formerly portrayed by Milly Alcock & Emily Carey, are now portrayed by Emma D’Arcy & Olivia Cooke in Episode 6 of House of the Dragon, which picks up ten years after Episode 5. Just after the tragic events of Rhaenyra’s marriage in episode 5, the rift between Rhaenyra & Alicent has only grown wider in the most recent episode. Daemon, played by Needham, leaves his wife Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell), while Larys (Matthew Needham) kills Harwin & Lyonel Strong (Samuel L. Jackson). It has been hinted in the preview for next week’s episodes of House of the Dragon that Rhaenyra & Alicent’s relationship will continue to deteriorate; now, Smith has spoken out on what viewers may expect.

What Kind of Shocks Does Season 7 of House of the Dragon Hold?
A trailer for episode 7 of House of the Dragon has already hinted at a fight between Rhaenyra & Alicent, suggesting that the tension between them has reached a new low. It is unclear if Smith means the actual encounter between Rhaenyra & Alicent or the aftermath of that conflict. It’s hard to say how large of a fight these two main characters will still have, but if they do, it might imply that the political skirmishes they’ve been having in the background ultimately become open conflict, forcing secondary people to choose sides.
In comparison to the first episode of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon already has delivered significantly more action sequences. House of the Dragon has seen a lot of people suffer brutally and surprising ends, while Game of Thrones surely raises the stakes in later series as the tension between characters blossoms into comprehensive battles. Smith’s response provides no clues as to the nature of the twist that may be in waiting for viewers, but it is probable that another important character may be killed off in next week’s chapter 7 of House of the Dragon.
