Netflix Has Cancelled Inside Job Despite Season 2 Order, Creator Confirms

Despite Season 2

Despite being renewed for a second season, Netflix has canceled the adult cartoon series Inside Job. Inside Job creator, Shion Takeuchi has a long history of making blockbuster animated episodes and movies, including Inside Out, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, and Netflix’s Disenchantment. Gravity Falls architect Alex Hirsch is an executive producer on the show. Inside Job is a workplace comedy about Reagan (Lizzy Caplan) and her Job at Cognito, Inc. This shadow government entity handles conspiracy theories that are true in the show’s universe.

Takeuchi stated on Twitter that Netflix chose to terminate Inside Job season 2 even though it was one of the best-animated shows of 2021, among revolutionary animated series Invincible and others. Because of the show’s early success, Netflix ordered an Inside Job season 2 last June, between the release of Season 1 Parts 1 and 2. Takeuchi has now revealed that Netflix has canceled Inside Job Season 1 Part 2 exactly seven months after its premiere, telling viewers in her announcement how heartbroken she is that they will never see the planned ending and thanking fans for following along on the adventure. Netflix has previously canceled shows after renewal.

Despite the unexpected blow to the show’s fanbase, Inside Job isn’t the first series to be canceled by Netflix after being renewed by the streaming service. The cancellation of The Society season 2 was one of the most visible examples of Netflix backtracking on a series renewal. The Society was a teen drama about a group of high school kids who returned home early after a canceled field trip to find their hometown desolate. The kids must then learn how to construct and administer their new community without adults while trying to figure out what occurred to their town. Netflix canceled the show after a dramatic cliffhanger, citing scheduling conflicts with the large cast amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another high-profile case of Netflix terminating a show’s renewal during the pandemic was canceling I Am Not Okay With This. The series followed Sydney Novak (Sophia Lillis), a teenager navigating high school while dealing with the complexities of her family and finding her sexuality. Sydney’s world, however, is turned upside down when she discovers she possesses mysterious telekinetic superpowers. After the successful horror film IT, Lillis was a hot name, and the series received positive reviews, leaving viewers perplexed by Netflix’s choice to discontinue the show.

What Inside Job Season 2 Might Have Looked Like

Inside Job had the potential to become one of the major adult animated series in the coming years, similar to Archer. The show’s tone is quite similar to that of Rick and Morty, with both series sharing the Sci-Fi genre, irreverent comedy, and the premise that anything can happen anytime during an episode. The conclusion of Inside Job season 2 opened a new chapter for the show, with the main character Reagan in charge of Cognito, Inc.

She didn’t realize that her new employment was part of the Shadow Board’s “Project X37” plot. After Netflix’s newest move, audiences will miss Inside Job’s outstanding voice actors and the show’s enigmatic plot and well-timed gags.
