Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, stated on Tuesday that it has paid more than $250 million (approximately Rs. 1,900 crores) to more than 12,000 artists working on Spotlight content throughout the world over the previous year. Last year, the Spotlight function was introduced as an in-app competitor to TikTok and Instagram’s Reels. Snapchat users may utilize preinstalled tools to produce short films.

Spotlight launched in India in March of this year, and the business claims that the daily time spent viewing Spotlight stories has doubled since then.

Snap claimed in a news release that Spotlight producers are publishing three times as much material as they were when the feature first launched in November of last year. Over 65 percent of Spotlight entries, according to the Santa Monica, California-based startup, employed one of Snapchat’s creative tools or augmented reality (AR) lens.

Through Spotlight programs, the $250 million was distributed to worldwide innovators. Snap added that Indian citizens and producers such as Neha Malik and Nilam Parmar from Mumbai, as well as Akshat Amitesh from Gurugram, had benefited from the Spotlight Rewards Program. “We are in awe of the passion and brilliance our creators demonstrate on Snapchat every day,” said Jim Shepherd, Snap’s Global Head of Talent Partnerships, in a prepared statement. “We are committed to meeting the needs of all creators, including listening to their feedback and supporting their business and audience growth all while keeping Snapchat a positive space for creators to be themselves.”

Snap also stated that more creators are utilizing its content and product offers to expand their audience and develop companies on Snapchat. Over 25 producers who create material for the Spotlight feature are also syndicating their program for the app’s Discover area, according to the report.
