Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren star in Taylor Sheridan‘s most recent entry in the Yellowstone world, which has raised the bar for both Paramount+ and the prolific writer.

The streamer revealed that the premiere of 1923, which was released over the weekend, was the most-watched Paramount+ event ever in the United States on Monday. It appears that there was no contest at all because 1923 broke the previous record by about 80%. It outperformed the openings of past Paramount+ blockbusters like Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, Halo, and Sheridan’s 1883.

In total, 7.4 million people watched the Dec. 18 debut of 1923 across all Paramount+ and linear telecasts, which included the premiere on Paramount Network, two encores, and a run on CMT.

According to Paramount Global,

The biggest series launch on cable for 2022 was made possible by the linear sampling preview on Paramount Network, which is not breaking down the viewership.

The Yellowstone universe continues to set records, with the most-watched launch ever on Paramount+ and the #1 new cable premiere of the year on linear, according to Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Paramount Media Networks & MTV Entertainment Studios. “With this most recent instalment showing no signs of slowing down, Taylor Sheridan continues to hit a cultural chord that has proven irresistible to fans from all across the country and the world, illustrating once more the strength of our franchise strategy to drive the future of Paramount+.”

A new generation of Duttons is introduced in the MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions film 1923, led by patriarch Jacob (Ford) and matriarch Cara (Mirren). The early 20th century, when pandemics, a severe drought, and the repeal of Prohibition all wreak havoc on the mountain west and the Duttons who live there, will be the focus of the television series.

Ford and Mirren are joined by Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, and Jerome Flynn in the film 1923.

Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, and Ben Richardson are the executive producers of 1923.
