The third time may very well be the charm for the Tomb Raider franchise. After two failed attempts at relaunching the popular video game franchise on the big screen, Warner Bros. is finally getting it right with a new movie that will build a connected Prime Video universe.
The first two movies, 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, starring Angelina Jolie as the iconic titular character, were box office bombs that failed to capture the magic of the video games. But this time around, Warner Bros. is taking a different approach by partnering with Amazon Studios to produce a new movie that will be part of a larger Prime Video universe.
This new movie will focus on a younger Lara Croft, played by Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl), as she tries to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance.
