The popular Netflix comedy-horror series, One of the most watched shows on the platform right now, as well as one of the most watched streaming shows ever, is Wednesday. According to Nielsen, a third-party viewing measuring company, the Tim Burton-produced series achieved the second-biggest streaming week across all streaming platforms. Viewers watched 6 billion minutes over the week of November 21–27. This feat is much more remarkable, considering that Wednesday became available on November 23, when streaming services first became available.

With 7.2 billion minutes of Season 4 of Stranger Things being watched during its first full week of availability, the show has the most streaming viewership. However, should remember that while Wednesday is a new series, Stranger Things has had six years to develop a fanbase (although it is based on a previously existing IP). Although Wednesday’s second season hasn’t been officially announced, it is likely to happen given the show’s popularity, and a Netflix executive’s expressed interest in continuing the plot. A few days following the show’s premiere, fans immediately urged for a second season on social media.

During its first week of availability, Netflix estimates that 24.7 billion minutes of Wednesday were watched, which is more than four times Nielsen’s figure. It should emphasize that Netflix tracks viewing across all platforms globally, whereas Nielsen only tracks viewing on TVs and in the United States.

When Was the Invented the Original Addams Family?

The titular member of the creepy but lovely Addams Family is the inspiration for Wednesday. Although many people may be familiar with the 1991 movie starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, and Christina Ricci, the IP dates back much longer.

The idea for The Addams Family first appeared in a cartoon in 1938. Since then, it has been adapted into several different media, including three live-action films, two computer-animated features, five television series (the first of which premiered in 1964), a few holiday specials, and even a Broadway musical.

Wednesday has eight episodes and debuted on Netflix on November 23. The show’s creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, also serve as executive producers. Jenna Ortega plays the title role. Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, and Christina Ricci are other cast members. In addition to serving as executive producer, Tim Burton directed four episodes.
