Top Gun: Maverick is included on Barack Obama’s 2022 list of motion pictures, including his top albums and books.
It is the fifth year that Obama has shared his end-of-year rankings. Fans eagerly anticipate seeing which works make Obama’s annual top ten list and frequently use it to guide what they should watch, listen to, or read for themselves.
Obama has given high acclaim to various films on previous lists, including the historical movie Judas and the Black Messiah and Prime Video’s horrifying superhero parody graphic novel The Boys adaptation.
Included a list of seventeen more excellent films in former president Barack Obama’s list of his favorite movies of 2022, led by none other than Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick.
His yearly list includes box office successes like Everything Everywhere All Once and The Woman King and Oscar hopefuls like The Fabelmans and Till.
Descendant, a Netflix documentary, also receives negative reviews, though Obama acknowledges he is “biassed” because he and the former first lady’s Higher Ground Productions produced it. See here for a list of Obama’s top movies for 2022:
Why Top Gun 2 Will Surprise Everyone in 2022
In 1986, the original Top Gun movie was produced and was considered a cult masterpiece. Tom Cruise’s leading-man career is frequently ascribed to the action-drama film, which stands out for its astounding visual effects and an outstanding soundtrack. Nobody anticipated its sequel would succeed even more spectacularly and earn widespread acclaim more than 35 years later.
Top Gun: Maverick is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2022, and Cruise is partially to blame. During the epidemic, multiple streaming services tried to buy the rights to the movie, but Cruise insisted that it be shown only in cinemas.
Top Gun: Maverick has excelled over its predecessor in every way and grabbed viewers’ hearts, including Obama’s, with spectacular flight sequences, a rich story, and an incredible cast.
Will Top Gun 3 Happen?
Given the popularity of Top Gun: Maverick, all signs lead to a future Top Gun sequel that will grow the brand. Although his time as a leading man is running out as he gets older, Cruise’s return would be beneficial.
However, Cruise’s Maverick may now serve as fleet commander because Val Kilmer’s Iceman is no longer present. Several characters in the big cast of aspiring pilots may help the franchise move forward, especially Miles Teller’s Rooster and Glen Powell’s Hangman.
Teller has disclosed that he is now in talks with Cruise and has already offered a sequel idea to Paramount Pictures. It’s mostly a matter of time, as most of the cast, producers, and director Joseph Kosinski are eager to make another Top Gun.
Top Gun: Maverick is slowly accruing nominations as the awards season gets underway and has already won The National Board of Review’s Best Film Award. A feat that has yet to be accomplished since before the pandemic, the movie reinvigorated the box office by drawing viewers to theatres and generating $1.49 billion in revenue. A second installment might set new benchmarks; hopefully, fans won’t have to wait another 36 years to see it.
