Sonya Eddy, 55, passed away. She was best known for playing Epiphany Johnson on the ABC serial series “General Hospital.”

She was born on June 17, 1967, in Concord, California, and began performing professionally while attending college and studying dance and theatre at the University of California, Davis.

EDDY’s s Acting Career

Her acting career began in 1990 with Ruby Dee’s play “Zora Is My Name,” but she earned her bachelor of arts degree in 1992. Other theatre performances that Eddy has performed include “The Comedy of Errors,” “Into the Woods,” as The Witch, and “South Pacific,” as Bloody Mary.

“The passing of lovely Sonya Eddy grieves me. She was not just a talented actress; Sonya was also a dear friend to me. Even though the nurse’s station’s center will now have a little less lighting, the presentation and our set will still highlight the nurse’s life and light. We offer her family, friends, and supporters our sincere sympathies on behalf of the entire GH cast and crew. She will be missed greatly. The executive producer of “General Hospital,” Frank Valentini, commented.

A forthright, no-nonsense nurse, Eddy joined the long-running medical drama in 2006 and performed the part for 543 episodes, making an appearance as late as this past October. The mother of Stan Johnson (played by Kiko Ellsworth), who was killed off from the show in 2007 after a mob hit, the character worked as the chief nurse. Eddy was a registered vocational nurse in real life as well.

Tyler Ford, her co-producer at Eddy Ford Entertainment, stated that she “left an enduring effect in every person she touched, through the screen and off.”

Her television career includes parts on sitcoms, including “Married… With Children,” “The Drew Carey Show,” “Murphy Brown,” “Seinfeld,” “Home Improvement,” and a regular character in “Joan of Arcadia.” In addition to her long-running role as Epiphany Johnson on “General Hospital,” Eddy also portrayed the character in the show’s primetime spinoff series, “General Hospital: Night Shift,” where she was promoted to the main cast member.

Actress Octavia Spencer, a colleague of Eddy’s, posted on Instagram, saying, “The world lost another talented gem.” She will be missed by her hordes of “General Hospital” lovers.
