Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Marvel Studios) Excerpt
What piqued your interest in returning for a second Doctor Strange film?
Wong, Benedict: I mean, wasn’t it about time? We’ve been on this journey that has taken us to this film since the Doctor Strange character first emerged in Marvel Studios’ flicks. Doctor Strange is notorious for his bizarre images, and this one is particularly otherworldly and spiritual.
Did you have a good time on set?
BW: We always have some music playing on stage. Xochitl is a passionate Tik Tok fan. She attempted to show me certain moves, but I strained a muscle. I had to quit since I’m such a grandpa at this!
How do you get along with Benedict Cumberbatch on the job?
He’s like a warm old glove. We’re constantly weaving back and forth across all of these films. You know, he’s the national treasure who keeps on giving? It’s great to see Strange and Wong together. The dynamic between them has shifted. Doctor Strange has advanced from student to sorcerer, while Wong has risen to the position of Sorcerer Supreme.
How was the audition process?
Xochitl Gomez: My first audition was in March of 2020. Marvel Studios gave fictitious names to the characters, the tale, and the fictitious plot. After six months of silence, I decided to move on. Then I received a callback. I had 10 days to prepare for my trip to London. I completed my screening exam. I expected to do my screen test in a conference room, but I did it on the New York Sanctum set in front of 80 crew members. I was very scared because it was my first time meeting Benedict Cumberbatch. I gave him my screen test. A few days later, I spoke with my agent and the casting director, Sarah Finn. “Xochitl, welcome to the Marvel Studios family,” they said. America Chavez, you!”
