In its most recent competitive series, Netflix is traveling to the wilds of Alaska.
The eight-part series Outlast, produced by Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Films and Nomad Entertainment, has been ordered by the streaming service.
The first unscripted series from Ozark actor Bateman is in a lengthy first-look agreement with the streamer.
In the upcoming 2023 television series Outlive, 16 “lone wolves” compete to outlast one another in the Alaskan wilderness to win a million dollars. They must be a part of a team to win in this brutal game, where there is only one rule.
“One of Netflix’s most ambitious, unscripted competition shows to date is the eight-part series”
In addition to Ozark, Bateman and Aggregate Films are the creators of a variety of Netflix original series and movies. Dark Wire, a thriller about the FBI, is being directed by Bateman, who is also attached to star in the upcoming Black Rabbit series with Jude Law. Also available on Netflix is the Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher romantic comedy Your Place Or Mine, written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna.
Other projects by Aggregate Films include the upcoming Peacock series Based on a True Story with Kaley Cuoco and the limited-run Brie Larson-starring Apple TV+ series Lessons in Chemistry.
The ABC reality series Castaways, which premiered in 2018 and has a survival premise set in Indonesia, is the most well-known product of Nomad Entertainment.
It is led by President Grant Kahler, who previously worked as an executive producer on Discovery’s Alaska: The Last Frontier in the region of the midnight sun.
Along with Kahler, Bateman, Michael Costigan, and Emma Ho will oversee production for Aggregate Films. Showrunner and executive producer Mike Odair is known for his work on Duck Dynasty.
Aggregate was thrilled to work with a fantastic creative team on our first unscripted show. For this ambitious social experiment series set in the harsh Alaskan Arctic, we enlisted the help of our friends at Netflix, Nomad Entertainment, and showrunner Mike Odair, according to Aggregate’s VP of Unscripted Emma Ho.
