Filming for the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven movies, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is about to start. Despite the female-led spin-off Ocean’s Eight’s critical and commercial success, Warner Bros. Discovery is steering the heist franchise in a different direction. Robbie was selected to star in the lead role of an Ocean’s Eleven prequel film set in 1960s Europe in May 2022. After the next Barbie movie, Gosling soon joined the cast, bringing the two stars back together. After directing the 2019 film Bombshell, Jay Roach will reunite with Robbie for the new Ocean’s movie.
The Ocean’s Eleven prequel movie starring Robbie and Gosling seems to be preparing to begin filming soon. The “Untitled Ocean’s Eleven Prequel” project to scheduled to begin filming on March 6, 2023, according to a production listing on the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s official website. The project summary says it is a “remake of the original Ocean’s Eleven,” even though it is referred to as a prequel.
Information Regarding The Ocean’s Eleven Remake
Despite being first described as a prequel, this new production listing calls it a “remake of the original Ocean’s Eleven,” suggesting that Robbie and Gosling’s film is more of a straightforward remake of the original Ocean’s Eleven from 1960. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop played World War II veterans working together to loot several Las Vegas casinos in that movie, which also starred other Rat Pack members. With Ocean’s Eleven, the first of his three star-studded caper movies, Steven Soderberg already made a remake of the movie in 2001.
There is a chance that the new Ocean’s Eleven movie, a remake of the 1960 original and set in the 1960s, can function as both a prequel and a quasi-prequel to Soderberg’s trilogy, which is set in the present. Given that it is referred to as both a prequel and a remake in the production listing, this appears to be the case. The new Ocean’s Eleven is positioned for success thanks to its cast, which includes Oscar-nominated actors like Robbie and Gosling.
Although a potential window for release has emerged, the new Ocean’s Eleven movie does not yet have a release date. However, filming is scheduled to begin in a few months. The film will most likely not be released before the summer of 2024 because previous reports have stated it will have a larger budget and “feel more theatrical and maybe even summer-worthy.” In the interim, viewers can catch Robbie and Gosling in the eagerly awaited Barbie film, which will be released in theatres on July 21, 2023.
