Director Gerard Johnstone suggests that M3GAN may eventually cross over with Annabelle. The protagonist of the upcoming horror movie directed by Jason Blum and produced by James Wan is an android who seems to be a young girl and is created to be Cady’s companion and guardian (Violet McGraw). As M3GAN develops self-awareness and becomes obsessively focused on performing her primary duty, this arrangement quickly has dangerous repercussions for everyone involved. Wan has previously worked on the Annabelle franchise and has compared M3GAN to a combination between The Terminator and Annabelle. M3GAN is not Wan’s first horror project featuring a murderous doll.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, M3GAN director Gerard Johnstone expressed his opinion that M3GAN and Annabelle is the deadliest killer doll. Producers Wan, Jason Blum, director Johnstone, and star Allison Williams were all asked about it. Wan and Williams made suggestions about M3GAN’s potential power level, and Blum said that while Annabelle would be more difficult to defeat, M3GAN could beat the murderous doll Chucky. Johnstone predicted Annabelle would prevail because of her supernatural traits; he mocked, though, that the only way to be certain is to watch a movie in which the two dolls face off. Below are Johnstone’s remarks and excerpts from Wan and Blum’s most recent interview with Screen Rant:
What Sets M3GAN Apart From Annabelle
Johnstone’s tease might potentially come true in a future film, given Wan’s involvement in both Annabelle and M3GAN, especially given that the success of the M3GAN teaser online has already sparked discussions of a sequel. The two dolls’ varied variances would make it fascinating to watch them face off, which would be both terrifying and funny. Although M3GAN and Annabelle were both intended to be children’s friends before they turned rogue, the two are different in several respects, including their abilities and their places of origin.
Johnstone’s remarks highlight the main distinction between M3GAN and Annabelle: the former is an artificially intelligent android created by humans.
At the same time, the latter is a straightforward porcelain doll possessing a demonic spirit. Annabelle is a historic doll passed down through the ages in contrast to the significantly more contemporary M3GAN, developed by Williams’ scientist character Gemma in the future film. The former interacted with numerous families and haunted them, whereas M3GAN appears to just interact with Gemma, her niece Cady, and those in their immediate vicinity in the trailers. Goals and purposes are key areas where M3GAN and Annabelle diverge significantly. While M3GAN’s motivations are more honorable, given that the android wants to protect her little charge Cady, Annabelle’s desire for human souls is comparable to that of a demon.
According to the information about the impending horror film, M3GAN will take this objective seriously and go to dark and horrific lengths to achieve it. If the evil Annabelle were to pose a threat to Cady, M3GAN might be able to defeat her thanks to this, her numerous potential upgrades, and her superior intelligence. The only way to identify the most powerful killer doll, as Johnstone explains above, is to witness an M3GAN and Annabelle crossover, the likelihood of which depends on M3GAN’s outcome in the film.
