Clint Eastwood wished one of his upcoming films would set an incredible director record. Eastwood is best recognized for his acting, but he has also been a prolific director since making his debut in 1971 with Play Misty For Me. He frequently directed himself during the height of his career; two of his most well-known films are The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven. He mostly gave up acting in the 2000s to concentrate on directing.

Clint Eastwood is a renowned director whose films are renowned for their ruthlessly efficient and lean production values. It has enabled him to produce movies swiftly and frequently on schedule. He always seems to be working on a new project, much like Ridley Scott, and he has directed seven films since 2013. He was 91 years old when he worked on his most recent movie, the neo-Western drama Cry Macho, in which he performed the major part.

Clint Eastwood desires to work with the oldest active film director ever.

It is undeniable that Eastwood has a strong work ethic and is quite productive, yet he has repeatedly stated that one of his goals is to work until he is 80. He credited Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira as an influence in 2010, telling Pilot, “In Portugal, there is a director who is still working at the age of 100. I’m going to break his record.” Five years later, when discussing Oliveira with Darren Aronofsky at a gathering (through Fox), Eastwood, who had turned down the role of Superman, said, “It would be amazing to be 105 and still doing films.”

In 1942, Oliveira directed his debut movie, Aniki-Bóbó, and in 2012, he directed his final picture, Gebo And The Shadow. The director died three years after finishing the latter project at 103. Eastwood grinned when he called his director hopes “the ultimate optimism,” but if any director could carry it off, it would be him. While some directors, like Quentin Tarantino, believe that a director’s filmography only worsens as they age and plan to retire after ten films, Clint Eastwood’s movies only continue to get more daring, as evidenced by Jersey Boys or Cry Macho.

Will Clint Eastwood helm any more films?

Since the 1970s, Eastwood has worked with Warner Bros, but there are indications that his tenure there may end. HBO Max’s Cry Macho had a poor box office performance. According to a WSJ article, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav voiced his concerns to officials about the film’s approval. We don’t owe anyone any favors, and it does not show buddies; it’s show business, Zaslav reportedly said when told hundred the movie because Eastwood had a long relationship with the studio and had previously given them several hits.

There hasn’t been any indication that Eastwood has agreed to work on another film since that report surfaced. In addition to his appearance in Katie Clearly’s nature documentary Why On Earth, he doesn’t appear to have any other upcoming acting or directorial projects. Perhaps Eastwood, who has a lost Western, is simply slowing down and taking a step back while discreetly planning additional films after being so prolific for decades. It’s difficult to imagine Clint Eastwood stopping working on movies, even if it’s not for Warner Bros.
