A few months after the actress from Triangle of Sadness passed away, Charlbi Dean’s cause of death was made public. She was 32.

Previously, her representative told The Hollywood Reporter that Dean passed away in August at a hospital in New York City due to an unanticipated medical illness.

The singer and model passed away from bacterial sepsis, a representative for the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner revealed to THR on Thursday. According to the spokesman, the sepsis was brought on by “distant blunt force trauma to [her] torso,” which “complicated asplenia,” or the absence of a spleen.

It was concluded that Dean’s death was an accident.

The medical examiner concluded that she contracted Capnocytophaga, a bacterium that can cause bacterial sepsis. The bacteria are typically present in the mouths of people, dogs, and cats. Still, they can also result in an illness under specific circumstances, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. What caused Dean’s infection is still unknown to this day.

The South African actress, whose real name is Charlbi Dean Kriek and who was born in Cape Town, started modeling at 14 before switching to acting in 2010 when she appeared in the movie Spud. Ruben Stlund’s Triangle of Sadness, which won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is up for two Golden Globes, was her most recent project.

After her passing, Stlund posted a message on Instagram saying, “It is an honor to have know and work with her.” “Charlbi had tenderness and consideration for others, inspiring her coworkers and the entire film crew. I got sadden by the prospect of her leaving our side in the future.

Spud 2: The Madness Continues (2013), Blood in the Water (2016), Don’t Sleep (2017), An Interview With God (2018), and Porthole are just a few of Dean’s more film credits (2018). She also made appearances on Black Lightning on The CW.
