In the latest problem of Marvel Comics’ Moon Knight, Marc Spector loses one of his greatest power thanks to Khonshu, the estranged god who created his Fist of Vengeance.
While Marc recently took down the most prominent organization of vampires in New York, The expense was the death of Khonshu’s other Fis, the Hunter’s Moon. Otherwise, the Hunter’s Moon ultimately returned from the grave, carrying a dark alert for Moon Knight & his future conflicts.
The Hunter’s Moon merges Moon Knight on a quest underground, far beneath the streets of New York, to Subterranea in the new Moon Knight #19 from Jed MacKay and Federico Sabbatini. As they fight to save a group of Moloids who desire the help of the Midnight Mission, Badr describes how Khonshu brings his Fists back from the dead.
While their physical bodies are restored, every renewal takes a small part of a Fist’s mind until there’s nothing left.
As complicated as that is, Hunter’s Moon also exposes that Khonshu gave him a message, confirming that so long as he stays imprisoned, he won’t be able to bring Moon Knight & Hunter’s Moon back as usual.
Will Moon Knight finally be able to free Khonshu?
Khonshu has been held jailbird on Asgard ever since the moon god attempted to take over the world and steal the Avengers’ powers, & Marc Spector has been pleased to let him remain in captivity.
“The Age of Khonshu” event was a significant turning point for Marc, where he chose he would no longer serve Khonshu while persisting in protecting the travelers of the night on his own terms.
However, it appears as though Khonshu will need to be freed sooner rather than after, especially if Marc wants to be restored should a few foes get in a lucky shot & bring about his death.
Even if Marc decides to keep Khonshu imprisoned, it’s not difficult to see the Hunter’s Moon taking it upon himself to rescue their god. After all, Badr is a far more dedicated and devoted Fist than Marc has ever been. He most likely wants their god to be liberated and restored to full power as soon as possible.
Given Marc’s line of work & the reckless cruelty of his tactics, losing his power to be resurrected is a significant deal for Khonshu’s Fist of Justice.
As such, the odds are pretty strong that the Egyptian moon god will be given his freedom in future problems. Moon Knight #19 is currently on sale from Marvel Comics.
